Movers & Shakers: New Superintendent Addresses Community In Letter, Burns to Start this Week
New AISD superintendent sends letter to staff
New Superintendent Heath Burns has sent his first letter to district staff today to introduce himself and his educational goals for the Abilene Independent School District.
Burns was officially hired Tuesday and will begin working in the district later this week.
Here is the letter in its entirety:
“Dear New Friends,
Hello! My name is Heath Burns. Last night the Abilene ISD Board of Trustees honored me and my family by unanimously voting to name me Superintendent of Abilene ISD. Needless to say, I am humbled, excited, eager, and anxious to begin meeting you and serving the children and young adults of Abilene ISD.
I realize that transitions can be scary. Dr. Polnick has skillfully led Abilene ISD for many years and is very proud to call Abilene home. Now, here comes the new guy. Please relax; I am anxious enough for all of us! I have only a few primary goals, and I suspect they are the same as yours. I want Abilene ISD to be the premier district in Texas. I want our students to be career and college ready. I want the schools to be warm, inviting, and fun places to be for students, parents, and employees. I want to assure great value to our taxpayers and community. In short, Abilene ISD schools are excellent, but there is always room for improvement.
